Warrup's Farm has been owned and operated by the Hill family since the 1840's. In the mid-1970's Bill Hill began raising vegetables and flowers and making maple syrup.
These activities continue today, along with hay-making, Christmas tree production and selling produce at the Weston Farmer's Market. Bill's son Lincoln, his wife Laura and long-time assistant Byron Graham help out around the year.
In the early 1990's Bill's parents, Sam and Betty Hill, bequeathed the land's development rights to the Redding Land Trust. This means that the land will always be available for agriculture, and will never be developed for housing. The field, forests, wetlands and transitional land amount to around 300 acres. This landmark gesture has become a model for landowners to follow. Anyone interested in preserving their land a similar manner, whether in Connecticut or elsewhere, should call the Hills for details.
Warrup's Farm produce is annually certified organic by Stellar Certification Services, and is transitional Biodynamic. Apprentices are considered annually. We invite the public to participate in farming by visiting the farm during the seasons. We are advocates of locally grown produce and programs that support the community, including our school visit programs.
